Minister urges investors to accelerate industrialisation


Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Wednesday called upon domestic and foreign investors, especially Japanese stakeholders, to accelerate industrialisation process in the country eyeing the implementation of Vision-2041.

“Japan has already assured investing in automobile and fertiliser factories in Bangladesh. We urge Japanese to invest in sugar, agro-processing and ship recycling industry in our country,” the minister said in a courtesy call with Japanese ambassador ITO Naoki to Dhaka.

During the meeting, they also discussed various issues of mutual interests, including setting up industrial plants and investment in accelerating a massive industrialization in the country.

The minister said, “Japan has been a real friend of Bangladesh for long time. The two countries have been working together for a long time on various issues including industrialisation, trade and commerce, culture, education, science and technology infrastructure development. We hope that our mutual cooperation will further strengthen in future.”

During the meeting, Ito Naoki expressed satisfaction over the fact that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the feasibility study of setting up a car manufacturing plant in Bangladesh by Mitsubishi Motors Company Limited is in the final stage.

“Bangladesh government provides all kind of necessary facilities to create investment friendly environment for the sake of foreign investors. As a developing country, Bangladesh is moving towards to industrial technology enhancement and trade compared to the other countries in South Asian region,” ITO Naoki said.

Naoki also assured to provide necessary assistance to set up new fertiliser factory in Sirajganj, and an automobile testing and research institute in Bangladesh.

Additional Secretary (Policy, Law and International Cooperation) of the Ministry of Industries Sheikh Faizul Amin, Personal Secretary of the Industries Minister (Deputy Secretary) Md Abdul Waheed, Senior Assistant Secretary (Policy) Md Salim Ullah and First Secretary of the Head of Economic Department of the Embassy of Japan Haruta Hiroki were present on the occasion.
