New banknotes of Tk1,000, Tk50 and Tk20 to hit market on 1 June
Bangladesh Bank is set to release newly designed banknotes of Tk1,000, Tk50 and Tk20 denominations into the market from 1 June.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the central bank said it has begun printing a new series of banknotes themed on the historical and archaeological architecture of Bangladesh.
The new designs will be introduced for all denominations—Tk2, Tk5, Tk10, Tk20, Tk50, Tk100, Tk200, Tk500 and Tk1,000, but in the first phase, ahead of Eid, only the Tk1,000, Tk50 and Tk20 notes will be released.
The press release, signed by Mahua Mohsin, Director of Bangladesh Bank’s Department of Publications and Communication, said the notes will bear the signature of Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur.
Initially, they will be issued from the central bank’s Motijheel office and later from its other offices across the country.
Bangladesh Bank said the existing paper notes and metal coins will continue to remain in circulation alongside the new notes.
To meet the interest of currency collectors, the bank has also printed non-exchangeable specimen notes of Tk1,000, Tk50 and Tk20.
Interested individuals can purchase them at fixed prices from the Currency Museum in Mirpur.
