Govt forms five-member committee to boost FDI

The government has formed a five-member review committee, headed by finance adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, to explore ways to attract more foreign direct investment (FDI) through the use of incentives.

According to a circular issued by the Chief Adviser’s Office on Thursday, the committee will review potential incentive packages and submit its recommendations within a month.

The other members of the committee include Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur, National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan, and Finance Secretary Dr Khairuzzaman Majumder. Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury will serve as the member secretary.

The circular also stated that the committee may co-opt additional members if necessary and will hold meetings as required.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to improve the investment climate and attract sustainable foreign capital through targeted policy support.
