Google Pay launched in country

Digital financial transaction platform “Google Pay” was officially launched in the country on Tuesday morning.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur officially unveiled Google’s flagship fintech service at a ceremony held at a Dhaka hotel.

City Bank Plc has introduced the platform for Bangladeshi smartphone users with support from Mastercard, Visa and Google. To this end, only City Bank Plc card users can avail the service for now.

From now on, City Bank customers will be able to link their Mastercard or Visa cards to Google Wallet and use Google Pay to make fast, secure, and contactless payments.

Using Near Field Communication technology, customers can simply tap their Android smartphones at compatible point-of-sale terminals both in Bangladesh and abroad to complete transactions.

The service employs advanced encryption technologies to ensure the safety and privacy of customer information. With this, smartphones essentially become digital wallets, eliminating the need to carry physical cards.

From air travel to everyday shopping, Google Pay is expected to transform the way payments are made

Google Pay can be used for payments at authorized stores, app subscription and in-app purchases.

During the launching ceremony, US Embassy’s Charge D’affaires Tracey Ann Jacobson and City Bank Vice Chairman Hossain Khaled were also present.
