93.58pc pass SSC, equivalent exams

A total of 93.58 percent students have passed this year's Secondary School Certificate and equivalent examinations.

Last year, the overall pass rate stood at 82.87 percent.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally released the results through a videoconference at Ganabhaban in Dhaka in the morning.

Examinees can get the results from the education board website — http://www.educationboardresults.gov.bd, and via SMS.

The prime minister also inaugurated the free textbook distribution programme at the same event.

A total of 22,27,113 candidates sat for this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations from 29,035 educational institutions under 3,679 centres.

The examination began on November 14 and concluded on November 23.

Generally, the examination is held in February each year, but the Covid-19 pandemic brought changes to the schedule this year.

The examinations were held with short syllabuses on three elective subjects on a group basis due to the pandemic.

Examinees, however, did not sit for tests in compulsory subjects like Bangla and English.

The duration of each exam was reduced to one and a half hours and there was no break between multiple choice questions and written tests.

The exams of science, commerce and humanities groups were held at different times to maintain social distance.
