BACHSAS to bring back Film Awards with additional sparks


The association of Bangladesh cine journalists' association, BACHSAS will make a return this year. On the coming April 5 the organization will celebrate its half-centenary at the new Bangladesh Film Archive Building, Agargaon, Dhaka. On this day the long delayed BACHSAS Cine Award will be resumed. Awards will be given for the postponed years from 2014 to 2018. Best films from these years would be awarded. To make the return of the film award more charismatic, the organisers have decided to honour five key personalities of the film and cultural movement of the country from the last five decades.
BACHSAS Award was started in 1973 even before National Film Award made its debut. Thus it holds special significance in the history of cinemas in the country. The award was given annually at a stretch till 1988. This year's Lifetime Achievement Awards would go to actors Alamgir and Rozina. The Emeritus Awards for five personalities would go to-Kohinoor Akhter Suchanda and Syed Hasan Imam for acting; Runa Laila for singing; Mirza Abdul Khalek for owning the century-old cinema-hall, Lion Cinema Hall in Islampur, Old Dhaka; Faridur Reza Sagar as producer for producing the most number of films. Journalist Shahadat Hossain the only member of BACHSAS who has survived till now since the very beginning will also be felicitated today. The full list of recipients will be revealed on April 2. It has been revealed that for the Best Film Award the jury board has already finished watching the films. Senior journalist Naresh Bhuiyan is leading the jury board.
On the much awaited day, April 5, events will be inaugurated at 10am. A friendly debate session will be held on the recent declaration by cinema hall owners to close down all the cinema halls of the country in April to avoid continued financial crisis. Iftekhar Uddin Nowshad, owner of Modhumita Cinema Hall, Motijheel and also president of cinema hall owners' association would take part on behalf of cinema hall owners with his team while on the opposite side would be Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, president of cinema directors' association with his team. A seminar on the recent happenings in film arena in the country would follow the debate session. At noon films would be screened. Apart from these scheduled sessions, throughout stalls would remain open throughout the day displaying various aspects of Film movement of the country. Posters of films from the golden old days would also be displayed in different stalls. A souvenir book would also be launched on the day. In the evening the award night would begin with Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud as chief guest and BACHSAS President Abdur Rahman in the chair.
After 1988 BACHSAS Award ceremony was withheld due to organizational complications. The award season resumed in 1995 and continued till 2013. Still it could not be continued in its full package. For this reason awards for five years were delivered in a period running between 2012 and 2014. But afterwards the awarding sessions were again stalled.
