COVID-19 pandemicBD reports 35 more deaths, 2,635 new cases


Bangladesh today confirmed 35 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 2,635 new cases of infection testing 12,486 samples in 50 labs across the country in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 846 and the number of total infections stood at 63,026.

"Among the dead patients, 28 are male and seven are female. Of them 20 are from Dhaka, eight from Chattogram, three from Rajshahi, two each from Sylhet and Barishal," Additional Director General of Health Directorate Professor Dr Nasima Sultana made the disclosure during a virtual briefing today.

Besides, 521 patients recovered during the time, increasing the number of total cured patients to 13,325.

"25 patients died at different hospitals, nine at their homes and one was diagnosed with the infection after death," she added.

According to the latest data of DGHS, 21.14% coronavirus infected patients have recovered, of whom 71% were male and 29% female. Some 1.34% has died of the total Covid-19 diagnosed patients, of whom 77.06% were male and 22.94% female. However, the infection rate has been 21.10% today.

Currently, 56,297 people are quarantined across the country – including 1,789 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 242,925 people have completed their quarantine course.

Nasima Sultana said, "The authorities placed 314 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 7,162 after 3,945 left."

"The country is capable of accommodating 13,284 people at different isolation wards and 31,991 people at 626 institutional quarantine facilities," she added.

Moreover, there are 399 ICU facilities and 112 dialysis beds available for the treatment of coronavirus infected patients in the country.

As many as 9,782,561 hotline health services were given by 16,267 trained and 4,217 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 166,604 in last 24-hour till 8am today. 

Till date, a total of 708,507 thermal screenings were conducted at different ports, including 493 at airports, 234 at seaports and 658 at land ports in the last 24 hours.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) collected by the government has been 2,509,142, of which 2,216,475 were distributed and 292,666 are left in store.

The virus has killed 398,489 people globally and infected 6,861,986 so far.
