45 deaths, record 3,171 new caseBD reports record daily jump in deaths and new cases


Bangladesh today confirmed highest single-day 45 deaths from the novel coronavirus and record 3,171 new cases of infection testing 14,664 samples in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 975 and the number of total infections stood at 61,675.

"Among the dead patients, 33 are male and 12 female. Of them, 28 are from Dhaka, 11 from Chattogram and two each from Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Sylhet, Additional Director General of Health Directorate Professor Dr Nasima Sultana made the disclosure during a virtual briefing today.

A total of 15,336 patients have recovered from the virus so far with 777 newly cured patients during the time.

According to the latest data by DGHS, 21.40% coronavirus infected patients have recovered and 1.36% died. However, the infection rate has been 21.62% today.

Currently, 56,638 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,602 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 249,389 people have completed their quarantine course.

Nasima Sultana said, "The authorities placed 557 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 7,893 after 4,535 left."

"The country is capable of accommodating 13,284 people at different isolation wards and 31,991 people at 629 institutional quarantine facilities," she added.

Moreover, there are 399 ICU facilities and 112 dialysis beds available for the treatment of coronavirus infected patients in the country.

As many as 10,297,754 hotline health services were given by 16,295 trained and 4,217 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 169,6637 in last 24-hour till 8am today. 

Till date, a total of 711,667 thermal screenings were conducted at different ports, including 487 at airports, 191 at seaports and 461 at land ports in the last 24 hours. 

Personal protective equipment (PPE) collected by the government has been 2,509,142, of which 2,257,875 were distributed and 251,267 are left in store.

The virus has killed 408,986 people globally and infected 7,211,147 so far.
