Flow of vaccine seekers to jab centres rising


The flow of people to vaccine centres keeps rising steadily as Bangladesh reported roughly 77-percent rise in the number of vaccinations on Tuesday.

The percentage was 60 on the second day of the ongoing nationwide Covid-19 inoculation.

At the same time, the volume of online registration is also going up significantly.

Officials and healthcare professionals termed the growth encouraging, saying that the immunisation target for the first month will be achieved if this continues.

According to the state-run Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 101,082 more individuals were vaccinated countrywide and the number was up by 54,573 from the previous day's tally.

Of them, 74,586 were males and 26,496 females, according to the official statistics.

The data also showed that the highest 25,220 people took the jab in Dhaka division with 12,517 alone in Dhaka metropolitan city.

With the latest figures, 179,318 individuals from across the country have so far taken the antidote of AstraZeneca developed by the University of Oxford.

DGHS director (MIS) Dr Mizanur Rahman said the number of people arriving at the centres has gone up quickly, which is a good sign.

Alongside those vaccinated, the trend of registration has posted an upward. "I hope the number will increase further in the coming days as this is a good and safe vaccine."

In terms of division-wise vaccination, Dhaka division topped the list with 22,136 people vaccinated followed by Chattogram (16,923), Rajshahi (9,399), Rangpur (8,415), Khulna (7,403), Sylhet (6,350), Mymensingh (4,087) and Barisal (2,956).

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University vice-chancellor Prof Dr Kanak Kanti Barua said people's flow to the BSMMU vaccine centre started rising where eight booths are in operation.

"Some 1,494 people took the vaccine today (Tuesday) while the number was 898 yesterday. It's encouraging."

DGHS sources said 182,065 more people were registered in the past 24 hours until 2:30 pm on Tuesday. It took the overall number of those registered to 660,165.
