BD reports 50 more death, 6,830 new cases


Bangladesh has recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases in a day since the pandemic made landfall in the country in March last year.

The country has recorded 6,830 new cases of the coronavirus, taking the tally to 624,594.

The death toll climbed to 9,155 after 50 fatalities were registered in the 24 hours to 8:00 am Friday, according to data released by the government.

The latest day's infection rate was 23.28 percent of the total tests. The death rate stands at 1.47%.

Among the latest day's victims, 40 were men and 10 were women. Forty-nine of them died in different hospitals across the country, while one at home.

Another 2,473 people recovered from COVID-19 through treatment at home and in hospital care in the same period, bringing the tally of recoveries to 547,411 with an 87.64% recovery rate.

Meanwhile, 29,339 samples were tested in 226 labs across the country in the past 24 hours.

This is for the fifth consecutive day Bangladesh recorded over 5,000 COVID-19 cases on a single-day.
