Infection rate falls to 12.78pcBD reports 117 more deaths, 3,535 new cases


Bangladesh reported 117 new coronavirus-related deaths and 3,535 infections in a span of 24 hours till 8:00 am on Friday.

During the same period, the positivity rate dropped down to 12.78 percent from Thursday’s 13.77 percent.

The overall caseload now stands at 14,86,153 and the total fatalities at 25,846, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 27,578 samples at 789 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 88,16,343 samples.

Meanwhile, 6,485 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 14,04,370.

Among the fresh fatalities, 51 were males and 61 were females.

Dhaka logged the highest with 40 fatalities in terms of deaths per division, 37 in Chattogram, 11 in Khulna, 10 in Sylhet, 6 in Barishal, 5 in Rangpur, 4 each in Rajshahi and Mymensingh.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload topped 214 million on Friday morning.

According to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 214,514,191 and the death toll to 4,472,870.
