Daily death count from Covid-19 has fallen below 100 in Bangladesh after 63 days as health authorities reported 80 new fatalities in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am Saturday.

A single-day death toll below 100 was last logged on June 26 this year when 77 people died in the country from the deadly novel coronavirus infection.

Bangladesh first witnessed Covid-19 daily deaths to rise over 100 on April 16 with 101 fatalities.

Another 3,436 fresh cases were reported during the same period, taking the overall caseload to 14,89,589.

The total fatalities now stand at 25,926, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last 24 hours, the positivity rate dropped down to 13.67 per cent from Friday's 13.77 per cent.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 25,129 samples at 789 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 88,41,472 samples.

Meanwhile, 4,861 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 14,09,231.

Among the fresh fatalities, 41 were males and 39 were females.

Dhaka logged the highest with 34 fatalities in terms of deaths per division, 21 in Chattogram, nine in Khulna, six in Sylhet, four in Barishal, three in Rangpur, two in Mymensingh and one in Rajshahi.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
