Narayanganj DC, SP, civil surgeon quarantined

A number of top government officials of Narayanganj district, including the deputy commissioner (DC), superintendent of police (SP), civil surgeon, have been quarantined after they came into contact with a doctor, who is a potential suspect of Covid-19.

Monirul Islam, additional police superintendent (ASP) of Narayanganj confirmed the matter to media.

"Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin started feeling sick from April 7 and his swab sample was sent to IEDCR the following day, " Additional Deputy Commissioner Selim Reza said adding, he was in good health.

According to sources from Narayanganj DC office, DC Jasim Uddin, also the president of District Corona Prevention Committee, had been taking rest at his bungalow from Wednesday morning after he fell sick on Tuesday night.

"We have decided to stay home complying with the social distancing rules as we came in contact with upazila Health Official Jahidul Islam who is now a suspect of Covid-19" he added.

The district's Civil Surgeon Mohammad Imtiaz said, "I am in home quarantine. I am also working from home and providing necessary directions from here."

Superintendent of Police Jayedul Alam, who is also working from home, said, "I am not in home quarantine, but following social distancing rules, since I also came in contact with the districts' focal person for Covid-19."

Upon contacting Sadar Upazila Health Officer Jahidul Islam, also the focal person on coronavirus outbreak in Narayanganj said, "Physically I am not doing well, but still trying to help over phone as much as possible."

Earlier, he was moved to isolation after he started showing symptoms of coronavirus in quarantine.

As one of the national clusters of coronavirus in Bangladesh, Narayanganj however has as many as 46 coronavirus patients, including doctors, nurses and ward boys, who are currently receiving treatment under IEDCR. So far, six has died including one woman in the district.
