Air Arabia to take back 112 Bangladeshi expats to UAE for free

UAE-based airlines Air Arabia has announced to take back the 112 Bangladeshi expatriates to Abu Dhabi, who could not enter Abu Dhabi due to immigration complications on August 14.

Air Arabia sent a letter to the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) in this regard, signed by Rajesh Narula, regional manager of Indian sub continent on September 27.

CAAB Chief Air Vice Marshal Mafidur Rahman confirmed the matter on Monday.

Air Arabia, in the letter, informed that it will ferry the 44 Bangladeshi expatriates who left on their flight on August 14 but were sent back due to visa complexities, said an Expatriates' Welfare Ministry press release on Monday.

Besides, it will also operate a flight for the 68 expatriates who left for UAE in a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, but were repatriated around that time.

The passengers of Biman would be flown out of the country free of cost as a goodwill gesture to Bangladesh, the release adds.

The passengers will, however, have to pay the tax for the tickets.

Expatriates' Welfare Minister Imran Ahmad on Monday issued letters of appreciation to both Air Arabia Airline and CAAB chief in this regard, it adds.

On August 26, a committee was formed to investigate the return of 112 expatriate workers who got stuck in the UAE due to impromptu change in immigration policies by the UAE customs due to Covid-19 pandemic.

After investigation, CAAB recommended to help send back the 112 migrant workers under government facility and to ensure all the necessary requirements, including Covid-19 certificates.
