Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday said he hopes to build the “desired Bangladesh” with collective efforts and prayers during Eid-ul-Fitr.

Speaking to reporters after exchanging Eid greetings with people from all walks of life at his official residence Jamuna, he said: “We pray to Allah this Eid that we can build the Bangladesh people aspire to.”

The prime minister said the government would work to build a country that reflects the people’s expectations.

He also paid tribute to those who were martyred in 1971 and 2024, and called for unity beyond political divisions to achieve the goal.

“We seek cooperation from all, regardless of party affiliation, to build the Bangladesh we envision,” he added.

Earlier, at Jamuna, he first met with diplomats and subsequently exchanged greetings with cabinet members, members of parliament, distinguished citizens, academics, religious leaders, artists, writers, and senior officials from government and private sectors.

The gathering reflected the diversity of the nation, bringing together representatives from all segments of society.

The Prime Minister was joined by his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman during the event.

The programme began at 10am and continued until around 11:30am. Devotees and well-wishers began arriving at Jamuna well before the scheduled time to meet the Prime Minister.

He also exchanged greetings with former Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus during the event.

The prayers, led by Baitul Mukarram National Mosque’s Khatib Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, were held at around 8:34am.

Cabinet members, lawmakers, senior political leaders, civil and military officials, and people from various walks of life joined the congregation.

After offering prayers, they exchanged greetings with attendees. Following the congregation, at around 10:00am, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived at Jamuna for the official Eid greeting ceremony.
