US urges govt to ease rules for organising workers' bodies in factories

The United States has urged the government of Bangladesh to formulate a plan to ease the rules for organising workers' bodies in the factories.

The US has also proposed to allow the formation of trade unions with the signatures of 10% of the workers in factories where less than 3,000 workers are toiling.

Leena Khan, Labor Secretary of the US Embassy in Dhaka made the proposal during a meeting with Law Minister Anisul Huq at the secretariat on Sunday.

Matthew Beh, First Secretary (Political Section) of the US Embassy in Dhaka was present at the meeting.

After the meeting, the law minister told reporters that they had a statement about the threshold (The income level below which individuals or families are considered to be living in poverty). As I said, we have brought down the threshold to 15%.
