Army ready to retort against any external attacks: PM’s Adviser

Prime Minister’s Security Affairs Adviser Maj Gen (retired) Tarique Ahmed Siddique has said the Bangladesh Army is ready to fight back if the country comes under attack by external forces.

He made this comment while responding to a question on internal unrest prevailing in the neighboring country Myanmar.

He also said that the civil administration and the armed forces are having a good relationship these days compared to any other time, and both are trying to get closer.

PM’s Adviser said this while addressing a press briefing of the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Division, followed by the 3rd day of the annual conference of deputy commissioners (DCs) at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday.

He said, “The Bangladesh-Myanmar border situation is still unstable. Though the civil administration and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are involved there, the army is yet to be engaged as there is no war situation.”

“As per the directives of the Prime Minister, we won’t take any aggressive steps until there is an obvious attack on our country. Many external forces are involved in the matter. But we don’t have any intention to be involved there, as we want peace and we are conscious of the security of the Rohingya community,” he said.

“It is a matter of relief that we don’t see any chances of an aggressive attack on our country. Our army has a global reputation, and we are prepared to repel any external attack at any time,” he added.
