International Women's Day-2024Women leaders call for gender-friendly investment and implementation to build a safe and equitable society and world


In the program organized on the occasion of the International Women's Day-2024, the speakers called for valuing and recognizing the important contribution of women in the economy, adequate investment for women and thereby building a healthy, safe and equality society and world for all.

“Women's equal rights, equal opportunities; Let's invest to move forward” Keeping this theme, COAST Foundation has organized a rally, human chain and discussion meeting at Bhola and Charfashan today on 8 March.

At 11 am. after the human chain in front of the Charfashion Upazila Parishad Complex, Upazila Parishad Chairman Mr. Zainal Abedin Akhyan, Charfashion Upazila Executive Officer Mr. Noreen Haque, Women's Affairs Officer Mr. Noor Nabi, Municipal Women's Councilor Mr. Rezawana Parveen and Mr. Md. Jahanara Begum, COAST Foundation Assistant Director Rashida Begum, Community Radio Meghna staff, students of various educational institutions, adolescents, women leaders, journalists etc. participated in the discussion.

Adolescent girls in the human chain and discussion meeting generously appealed to all levels of citizens in the society to build a strong social movement against women and children violence and they also raise their demands to the government to ensure effective enforcement of the law to ensure rights and security.

They said, the reality is that child marriage has now become a social disease. As a result of natural disasters caused by climate change, the income of people in coastal areas is decreasing, poverty is increasing, coastal girls are at serious risk of child marriage.

During this time the speakers also said that ensuring gender equality is the biggest challenge of human rights. Investing in women is an essential human right and the basis of building an inclusive society. We are today facing rising poverty levels and climate change crises. Empowerment of women is necessary to face these challenges.

Meanwhile, at the discussion meeting held at Bhola district administration complex at 11 am at the end of the rally, the grass roots women leaders said in their speech, feminist organizations are leading the fight against poverty and inequality. But they lack sufficient funds.

They called for increased government investment to advance their activities by securing the necessary funding.
