Businessman chopped into six pieces in Dhaka

A businessman has been murdered and cut into six pieces at Baigdia in Sabujbagh of the capital.

The deceased, Zakir Hossain, 55, remained missing for the past eight days. His dismembered body was recovered from a bush in the area on Thursday and sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.

Zakir, a resident of Baigdia, was a plastic scrap trader and owned huge ancestral lands in the area. Assailants called him to a house over the mobile phone and killed him there.

The police first arrested a suspect, Azhar Ali, from the area on Thursday, and as per his information, they recovered the body parts except the right hand.

Three more individuals – Sukkur Ali, Razib and Swapan – were also arrested in connection with the murder.

Sabujbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Shamsul Amin said the trader went missing on 4 June, and the victim’s wife, Rekha Akter, first lodged a general diary (GD) and later an abduction case with the police station.

Md Sumon Mia, younger brother of the deceased, said his brother might have been killed over land disputes with their cousins.

He suspected that the cousins hired men to kill his brother.

Besides, he said, Zakir withdrew Tk3 lakh from a bank in the Trimohoni area on the day he went missing and the money was not found as well.
