Seven killed in night of horror in Naogaon, Cox’s Bazar

At least seven people, including women and children, were killed in two brutal incidents in Naogaon and Cox’s Bazar in a single night, sparking panic in both areas.

In Naogaon’s Niamatpur upazila, four members of a family were slaughtered in Bahadurpur village late on Monday. The victims were cattle trader Habibur Rahman (35), his wife Popy Khatun (30), their son Parvez Hossain (10), and three-year-old daughter Sadia Khatun.

Police said Habibur had returned home with around Tk 280,000 after selling cattle. Suspected robbers stormed the house at night, slit the throats of the couple and killed the two children by striking them on the head before fleeing with cash and gold ornaments.

The bodies were found early Tuesday when Habibur’s father noticed blood at the door. Police believe the attackers killed the entire family to eliminate witnesses.

In a separate incident in Teknaf, police recovered the throat-slit bodies of three young men from a remote hill in the North Shilkhali area of Baharchhara on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Aminul Islam Rabi (19), son of Ruhul Amin; Mujibur Rahman (38), son of the late Nurul Kabir; and Nur Bashar (20), son of the late Nurul Islam—all residents of the same area.. Police and locals said they were allegedly linked to organised gangs involved in robbery and human trafficking.

Police said the bodies bore multiple injuries, suggesting a violent clash. Investigators are examining whether the killings stemmed from disputes within criminal networks.

Locals reported growing incidents of abduction and armed activity in the Baharchhara hills, leaving thousands living in fear.

Police have launched operations to identify and arrest those responsible in both incidents.
