Four more died of coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said today.

This is the highest number of deaths in a day so far in the country. The death toll now stands at 13.

Twenty-nine people have tested positive for Covid-19 in last 24 hours, the health minister also said.

With this, the total number of infected has reached 117.

The health minister revealed the information at a views-exchange meeting on Covid-19 situation with healthcare professionals' organisations including Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad and others at Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons in Dhaka.

This is the biggest jump in positive tests over a 24-hour period since Bangladesh announced its first cases on March 8.

The health minister advised people to follow rules of quarantine and social distancing seriously to avoid a catastrophic situation as seen in Europe.

He also said, next 30 days will be crucial time for the country.

The minister acknowledged that the return of RMG workers to the capital amid the coronavirus crisis is indeed a terrible act. 

The global death toll from novel coronavirus (COVID-19) reached 69,480 as of Monday.

The virus, first reported in China, has so far infected 1,274,346 people around the world, according to worldometer.
