52 areas under lockdown in Dhaka


As many as 52 areas in Dhaka have been put under lockdown as of Tuesday night to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. 

The areas under lockdown are - Chawkbazar's Khaja Dewan road, six areas in Mohammadpur and Adabor, Mohammadpur Krishi Market, Tajmahal road's Minar Masjid area, Rajia Sultana road, parts of Babar road and parts of Basila, Adabar. 

In Chawkbazar, police blocked first and second lanes of Khaja Dewan road after a coronavirus patient was identified in the area. 

The residents living in the two lanes have been asked to remain indoors until further notice, Moudud Hawladar, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar police station said.

Police have also locked down Boro Katra and Nawabganj Road in Lalbagh after identifying two patients, Officer-in-Charge of Lalbagh Police Station KM Ashraf Uddin said.

"We still have not locked down any area in Azimpur yet," he added.

Earlier in the afternoon, police blocked the entrance of four roads in Mohammadpur after six coronavirus patients were found. 

The roads are - Rajia Sultana road, parts of Babar road, Tajmahal road and west part of Bosila.

The residents living in those areas will remain under lockdown until further notice, Mohammad Zone's Assistant Commissioner Mahmud Khan Saikat said.

The areas that were locked down prior to Tuesday are - parts of Mohakhali's Arjat Para area, areas adjacent to Apollo Hospital and Road no (D block) of Basundhara R/A, parts of BUET, parts of Eskaton's Dilu road, Mirpur's Tolarbagh and North Tolarbagh, parts of Uttara Sector 14, Kazipara, Central Road, Showari Ghat, Mirpur 10's Road no 7, parts of Paltan, Ashkona, Nayatala, Senpara, Mir Hajirbagh, areas adjacent to Nandipara Bridge, a road in Mirpur 11, parts of Dhanmondi 6, Uttar Tolarbagh, Mirpur 13 Desco quarter, South Jatrabari's Kutubkhali, West Maniknagar, some areas in Narinda, areas adjacent to Green Life Hospital and parts of Islampur. 

The country on Tuesday confirmed that five more people, including four men and one woman, died from the novel coronavirus and 41 tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

Thus, the number of confirmed cases in the country has reached 164, while the death toll stands at 17.
