EC prepared to announce poll schedule on Nov 8


Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmad today said the EC has taken all-out preparation for declaring the poll schedule on November 8 for the 11th parliamentary elections.

“The authority of announcing election schedule is solely vested on the EC. The EC has already decided to declare the schedule on November 8,” he told the journalists after a meeting of the Jatiya Oikya Front leaders with the chief election commissioner at the EC secretariat in Agargaon area this afternoon.

A meeting of the EC will be held at 10 am on November 8 in this regard, he said.

Replying to a question from journalists, Helal Uddin said the Oikya Front leaders requested the EC to keep eyes on the dialogue to be held between the Oikya Front and the Prime Minister at Ganabhaban at 11am on November 7.

About Oikyafront’s demand of deploying army personnel in the election, he said decision will be taken on the matter after holding a meeting with the Election Commissioners after declaring the election schedule.

The EC has a plan of using Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in a small scale in the urban areas, the EC secretary said.

A six-member delegation of the Jatiya Oikya Front led by Jatiya Samagtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rab went to the EC secretariat and held a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda at the EC secretariat in Agargaon here. Other four election commissioners were present in the meeting.
