National Life generates highest turnover


Ten most traded firms accounted for 21 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in the outgoing week, with the National Life Insurance Company bagging the top spot on the turnover chart.

Market analysts said the National Life drew the attention of investors almost throughout the week as they are increasingly shifting their focus towards the insurance sector since the national budget for fiscal year 2019-20 was placed in parliament.

According to the DSE data, about 2.99 million shares of National Life were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 786 million during the week, making up 3.72 per cent of the week's total turnover of Tk 21.12 billion.

The life insurer's share closed at Tk 260.40 on Thursday, the last trading session of the week, losing 1.29 per cent over the week before.

The company has yet to declare the dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2018.

Runner Automobiles came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 574 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 96.10 on Thursday, shedding 9.68 per cent over the previous week.

Asian Tiger Sandhani Life Growth Fund clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 562 million changing hands. The fund's unit price soared 22.52 per cent to close at Tk 13.60.

JMI Syringes & Medical Devices emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 455 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 470.50, losing 0.59 per cent.

Rupali Insurance notched the fifth spot, with shares worth more than Tk 424 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 7.96 per cent to close at Tk 24.40 each on Thursday.

The turnover of Sinobangla Industries was Tk 372 million. The company's share closed at Tk 64.80 each, losing 2.05 per cent over the week before.

The United Power featured a turnover of Tk 341 million. The power generation company's share price advanced 0.56 per cent to close at Tk 377.70 each on Thursday.

The turnover of Monno Ceramic was Tk 323 million. The company's share closed at Tk 175.50 each, losing 9.30 per cent over the previous week.

Grameenphone featured a turnover of Tk 298 million. The largest market-cap company's share price plunged 7.84 per cent to close at Tk 331.60 each on Thursday.

Rupali Life Insurance Company also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 296 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 1.14 per cent week on week to close at Tk 62.20 each on Thursday.
