No more filling up forms or copy of NID for mobile SIMs

Customers are no longer required to fill forms to buy a SIM as the mobile operators have introduced e-registration process since Sept 1.
From now, a customer will need to share his/her name, national ID number, date of birth, present address and fingerprint without filling the Subscriber Application Form (SAF) when purchasing a new SIM.
The paperless SIM registration process was launched after the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Communication (BTRC) had instructed the mobile operator to do so to strengthen the security of customers’ personal information.
Leading mobile operator Grameenphone unveiled the new process through a press conference at its office in the city’s Gulshan on Tuesday (Sept 4).
Another operator Banglalink also followed the suit.
“This initiative will make ease SIM registration process easier and protect subscribers’ personal data,” said Banglalink CEO Erik Aas.
Grameenphone Deputy CEO said, “It (e-registration) will advance the digital process of the telecommunication ecosystem.”
Initially, e-registration will be applicable to buy a new SIM with other services related to SIM to be included gradually.
