6 suspended, 6 others sued after convict escapes from Kashimpur jail
Six jailers including the chief jailer have been suspended on Friday for their alleged negligence in connection with the disappearance of a life-term convict from Kashimpur Central Jail-2.
A case has been filed against six other jailers.
Inspector General of Prisons (IG Prisons) Brig Gen AKM Mustafa Kamal Pasha confirmed the information to the media.
He said that a three-member committee has been formed as well to investigate into the incident.
A life-term convict named Abu Bakkar Siddique fled from Kashimpur Central Jail-2 in Gazipur on Thursday (August 6).
Hailed from Abad Chandipur area of Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira, Siddique was shifted to the Kashimpur Central Jail-2 from Rajshahi as a death-row convict in 2011.
On July 27, 2012, his death sentence was commuted to life in jail by a court.
On May 13, 2015, Siddique remained missing from jail as he went into hiding inside the jail. Later, the jail authorities found him from inside a septic tank the following day.
