CJ to deliver a farewell address this afternoon
Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed will deliver a farewell address on Sunday (December 14) at 3 PM in the Supreme Court Auditorium to senior judicial officers serving in the country's district courts.
The Supreme Court administration has stated that during the session, the Chief Justice will deliver a farewell address to all the country's District Judges, Metropolitan Sessions Judges, Chief Judicial Magistrates, and Chief Metropolitan Magistrates.
The Chief Justice will retire on December 27. He was sworn in as the 25th Chief Justice on August 11, 2024.
Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed is an alumnus of the University of Dhaka. He earned a first-class degree in law from Wadham College, University of Oxford, and later completed his master's and PhD at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in the United States. As an immigration law expert, he has worked with the UNHCR.
He was admitted to the bar of the Dhaka District Court in 1984 and to the High Court in 1986. He became an additional judge of the High Court on April 27, 2003, and was elevated to a permanent judge in 2005.
Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed is the son of the eminent lawyer and former Attorney General Barrister Ishtiaque Ahmed and the language activist and first national female professor, Dr. Sufia Ahmed, who was awarded the Ekushey Padak.
