US Ambassador pays courtesy call on Jamaat Ameer


US Ambassador in Dhaka Brent T Christensen paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Thursday morning.

The courtesy meeting between Jamaat Ameer and US Ambassador was held at 8:00am at the party’s Bashundhara office in Dhaka. The meeting was held in a highly cordial and warm atmosphere.

The US ambassador was accompanied by senior officials from the US Embassy, including Political and Economic Counselor Eric Gillman, Public Affairs Officer Monica L Sy, Political Officer James Stewart and Political Specialist Firoz Ahmed.

During the discussion, both sides exchanged views on a range of important issues, including the prevailing political and economic situation in Bangladesh, industry and trade, the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election, state reforms, and the Rohingya crisis.

Ambassador Brent praised Jamaat-e-Islami for what he described as its positive role in Bangladesh’s economic development and democratic progress.

He also expressed optimism that bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States would be further strengthened in the future.

Senior leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami were also present at the meeting, including Assistant Secretary General and Central Publicity and Media Department Chief Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer, Central Executive Council Member Md. Mobarak Hossain, and the Ameer’s Foreign Affairs Adviser, Professor Dr. Mahmudul Hasan.

The meeting underscored ongoing diplomatic engagement between the United States and key political stakeholders in Bangladesh amid the country’s evolving political landscape.
