The proposed budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year exceeds Tk8 lakh crore
The 2024-25 national budget proposes hikes in duties and value-added tax (VAT) on various products and services,
This is the 5th consecutive budget of incumbent Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal
The minister said this while placing a Taka 7.61 lakh crore national budget for FY23-24 in the Jatiya Sangsad here
Out of this, govt to collect Tk 4 lakh 30 thousand crore through the National Board of Revenue and Tk 70 thousand crore from other sources
The sector got Taka 6,110 crore more compared to the last fiscal as the total allocation for the communication sector was Taka 81,519 crore in the FY2022-23
While unveiling the national budget, the minister said “We are decentralising education planning and management and implementing a 'School Level Improvement Plan (SLIP)' to enhance efficiency in primary education management"
Of the total allocation, Tk 25,695 crore has been allocated for the Public Security division, while the remaining Tk 4,163 crore for the Security Service division
Tk 42,095 crore has been proposed for the Defence Ministry and other services under the ministry in the national budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year
The finance minister said this while placing the proposed budget for FY24 at Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday
He proposed to reduce the size of the annual development Programme from Tk 2 lakh 46 thousand 66 crore and set it at Tk 2 lakh 27 thousand 566 crore
At present, registered taxpayers have to file their income, expenditure, and wealth statements and get proof of submission of returns to avail 38 types of services

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in his budget speech today also proposed to increase the tax-free income threshold for women and senior citizens above 65 years of age to Taka 4 lakh from Taka 3.5 lakh
