3 parlours found guilty of evading Tk 30mn VAT

A team of VAT detective in a raid has found three beauty parlours evading Tk 30 million VAT in the capital’s Gulshan area.

The raid was carried out by deputy directors of VAT detective Nazmun Nahar Kaiser and Ferdousi Mahbub on Sunday.

They raided Javed Habib Beauty Parlour, Zahid Khan Bridal Makeover & Bridal Studio and Aroma Thai Spa in different areas of Gulshan.

Javed Habib rented two floors of a house for Tk 8 lakh per month while he paid Tk 50,000 VAT. The rest of the rent information has been kept hidden.

On the other hand, he has hidden his actual sale information about his monthly return. After verifying the documents seized from the company, the VAT detective team initially found VAT evasion of around Tk 16 million.

Zahid Khan Bridal Makeover is basically a luxurious bridal parlour. It sells bridal clothes and various types of jewelry inside. VAT detectives checked their VAT returns and saw that their actual sales information has been withheld. The company does not issue VAT invoices properly and is still operating with old and invalid registrations. The company was found to have evaded Tk 5 million VAT.

Aroma Thai Spa is similarly conducting business with old and invalid registrations. During the operation, the VAT detectives found the company evading Tk 9 million VAT and its VAT accounts were not properly maintained. There was a huge discrepancy between the VAT documents and the commercial documents.

These three companies don’t file their returns regularly according to the VAT Act.

Legal procedure was underway against the three parlors for violating VAT Act, detectives said.
