ACC files charges against DIG Prisons Partha Gopal Banik

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a chargesheet against Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Partha Gopal Banik, who was arrested with Tk80 lakh.

ACC Assistant Director Md Saladin submitted the chargesheet on Monday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge KM Imrul Kayesh reviewed the chargesheet.

The court had fixed August 31 as the date for receiving the chargesheet.

However, the commission took the decision to file charges on Tuesday.

On July 28, 2019, the ACC had arrested Partha Gopal Banik, DIG (Prison) of Sylhet Central Jail, on charges of irregularities and corruption.

He was arrested after Tk80 lakh was recovered during a raid on his house in the Bhooter Goli area of Dhanmondi in the capital.

He earned the money through bribery, corruption, and irregularities, said ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.

ACC Director Muhammad Yusuf had interrogated Banik for allegations of corruption and irregularities when the DIG of prisons was posted at Chittagong Central Jail.

Later, an ACC team conducted the drive on his home.

Meanwhile, the ACC had also questioned Prashanta Kumar Banik, a former senior superintendent of the Chittagong Central Jail, for similar allegations.
