Corruption CrackdownTravel ban imposed on Sylhet customs official Enamul


A Dhaka court on Monday banned foreign travel by Sylhet Customs, Excise and VAT Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Haque until further notice.

Dhaka Sessions Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain passed the order following a plea filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in this regard.

Earlier, on 4 July, ACC Deputy Director Farzana Yasmin, the investigating officer of the case, applied for an order to seize Enamul’s property for the sake of proper investigation.

In the application, the investigating officer mentioned that a case was filed against the accused under Section 27(1) of the ACC Act 2004 for acquiring illegal assets worth Tk9.77 crore through bribery and corruption.

A perusal of documents shows that the person mentioned in the complaint, Mohammed Enamul Haque owns multiple lands in the capital's Gulshan, Khilkhet and Badda areas as well as in Gazipur .

Also, the accused owns commercial spaces and multiple flats with car parking in Badda, Kakrail, Gulshan and Mohammadpur areas of the capital.
