Abdur Rahman Khan made new NBR chief

The interim government on Wednesday appointed Financial Institutions Division (FID) Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Khan as the new chief of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), hours after cancelling the contractual appointment of Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem.

A section of businessmen have alleged Muneem of corruption, and some tax officials joined the protest demanding his resignation following the ouster of Awami League government on 5 August.

The Awami League administration extended Muneem’s tenure by two years in January on a contractual basis.

The new NBR chief is the secretary of finance ministry’s FID branch, and would also serve as the secretary of the ministry’s Internal Resources Division (IRD), according to a notification issued by the Public Administration Ministry on Wednesday.

Khan joined the civil service in the tax cadre in 1994 and later he was posted to the IRD and finance division before he was promoted to the post of secretary in May this year.
