BD reports 37 more deaths from coronavirus, 3,187 new cases


Bangladesh today confirmed 37 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 3,187 new cases of infection testing 15,772 samples in 55 labs in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 1,049 and the number of total infections stood at 78,052.

"Among the dead patients, 30 are male and seven female. of them, 20 are from Dhaka, seven from Chattogram, four from Rangpur, three from Barishal and one from Rangpur. 28 of them died at hospitals and nine at home, "Additional Director General of Health Directorate Professor Dr Nasima Sultana made the disclosure during a virtual briefing today.

Some 848 patients recovered during the time, increasing the total of cured patients to 16,747.

According to the latest data by DGHS, 21.46% coronavirus infected patients have recovered and 1.34% died. However, the infection rate has been 19.98% today.

Currently, 58,999 people are quarantined across the country – including 3,161 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 253,345 people have completed their quarantine course.

Nasima Sultana said, "The authorities placed 671 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 8,764 after 4,873 left."

"The country is capable of accommodating 13,284 people at different isolation wards and 31,991 people at 629 institutional quarantine facilities," she added.

Moreover, there are 399 ICU facilities and 112 dialysis beds available for the treatment of coronavirus infected patients in the country.

As many as 10,634,830 hotline health services were given by 16,320 trained and 4,217 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 171,048 in last 24-hour till 8am today. 

Till date, a total of 713,958 thermal screenings were conducted at different ports, including 260 at airports, 338 at seaports and 682 at land ports in the last 24 hours. 

Personal protective equipment (PPE) collected by the government has been 2,509,142, of which 2,283,575 were distributed and 225,567 are left in store.

The virus has killed 419,265 people globally and infected 7,471,198 so far.
