Lotus elected DCAB president, Imrul GS


Rezaul Karim Lotus, Executive Editor of the Daily Sun and Imrul Kayes, Special Correspondent of Banglavision, have been elected President and General Secretary respectively of the Executive Committee of Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) for 2023.

The election to the DCAB Executive Committee was held at Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Thursday.

Lotus got elected for the fifth time as President of DCAB while Imrul Kayes as GS for the first time.

Chief Election Commissioner and senior journalist Farid Hossain announced the election results.

Two other Election Commissioners are Nizamuddin Ahmed and Rejoanul Haq Raja.

Mir Mostafizur Rahman, journalist of the Financial Express, was elected Vice President in the election.

Other office bearers are: Joint Secretary Ashiqur Rahman Apu (ATN News), Treasurer Atiqur Rahman (Daily Jobabdihi) and Office Secretary Morshed Hassib Hasan (Channel 24) .

Five elected Executive Members are: Khurram Zaman (barta24.com), Nafiza Daula (Independent TV), Rabiul Huq (The Daily Industry), Sheikh Shahrirar Zaman (Bangla Tribune), and Touhidur Rahman (Banglanews24.com).

Earlier, the AGM of the DCAB was held with outgoing President Rezaul Karim Lotus in the chair.

The newly elected DCAB President brings with him a wealth of reporting experience from his over three-decade-long career at The Daily Star and United News of Bangladesh (UNB) where he held different positions.

He began his journalism career as Dhaka University Correspondent at the UNB in March 1989 when he was sophomore at the Dhaka University.

In his long career, Lotus participated in various high level professional training, conference, leadership and study programmes, UN and international summits, including in the USA, UK, EU, India and China.

He took part in the International Leadership Visitor Programme in USA, European Union Leadership Programme in Brussels, “Next Generation Leaders Visit to South Korea” programme in Korea, Study on Decentralisation and Local Government in Switzerland and Sweden, Diplomatic Correspondents Conference in India, media conference on Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Maritime Silk Road project in China. Besides, he visited the USA at the invitation of the US Department of State to participate in reporting tour on “Amplifying the Indo-Pacific Strategy.”

Earlier, Lotus was elected President of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association Bangladesh (DCAB) for fourth times in 2012, 2017, 2018 and 2022.
