Teesta flowing above danger level in Lalmonirhat

The residents along the Teesta River are passing their days in fear of possible flood as the water level of the river crossed the danger level early today, inundating the riverside and homes in low-lying areas.

The river was flowing 5cm above its danger level at Teesta Barrage point at Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat from 6:00am due to rainwater and onrush of water from the upstream.

Meanwhile, the water of Brahmaputra, Dudhkumar, and Dharla rivers continued to rise in Kurigram, but the water of these rivers is still flowing below the danger level.

Shunil Kumar, executive engineer of Water Development Board in Lalmonirhat, said the char areas along the Teesta River have been inundated due to the rise in water level.

“However, all the gates of the Teesa barrage were kept open to tackle the situation,” he added.
