US welcomes interim govt steps to protect minorities

The US welcomes steps taken by the Prof Yunus-led interim government for ensuring the safety of religious minorities and others in Bangladesh.

US State Department Spokesperson Tamy Bruce told this to reporters at a media briefing.

Recently, in an interview with Indian media NDTV, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard expressed concern about Bangladesh’s current situation and abuse of religious minorities.

When asked about the recent remarks made by Tulsi Gabbard regarding minority attacks in Bangladesh, Bruce stated that they (US) condemn any instances of violence or intolerance directed towards members of minority communities in any country.

“We welcomed measures taken by Bangladesh's interim government to ensure safety and security for all," she added.

That’s what we’re watching. That’s what we expect. And that will be what continues,” Bruce said.
