Earthquake felt in various parts of the country


An earthquake was felt in Dhaka and several parts of the country at 12:25 pm on Friday (March 28).

Md Rubaiyat Kabir, the acting officer at the Meteorological Department's Earthquake Observation and Research Centre, confirmed the information to reporters.

He stated that the earthquake originated in Mandalay, Myanmar, a neighboring country of Bangladesh. It measured 7.0 on the Richter scale, with the epicenter located 597 kilometers from Dhaka.

Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.7.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 16 kilometers north-northwest of Sagaing, Myanmar, with a depth of 10 kilometers.

Earlier, on March 5, a powerful earthquake struck India's Manipur region near the Myanmar border. Its impact was felt in various parts of Bangladesh, including Dhaka and Sylhet. According to the USGS, that earthquake had a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale.
