Islamic scholars including Ahmadullah, Azhari to join ‘March for Gaza’

A number of popular Islamic scholars including Shaikh Ahmadullah and Mizanur Rahman Azhari have announced they would take part in the “March for Gaza” demonstration in the capital to raise global consciousness against Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza.

The “Palestine Solidarity Movement, Bangladesh” has planned the march from Manik Mia Avenue to Suhrawardy Uddyan, drawing huge social media response.

The march would culminate into a massive rally at Suhrawardy Uddyan. The National Mosque Baitul Mukarram’s Khatib Maulana Abdul Malak will preside over the rally. Social media responses suggest the crowd will be massive.

Ahmadullah, Azhari and other Islamic scholars have called on everyone to join the march, almost ensuring their large support base would join the movement.

The two Islamic scholars have called on everyone to follow the five-point directive issued by Palestine Solidarity Movement to ensure discipline during the protest.

The directives are:

> To join the march with a cooperative and volunteering mindset.

> To ensure on-site cleanliness during the march and during the rally at Suhrawardy Uddyan. To seek support from volunteers, medical teams and ambulances during medical emergencies.

> To avoid tensions at all cost, and, during untoward incidents, wholeheartedly support volunteers and law enforcers in maintaining security.

> To avoid all symbols that can undermine the country’s image. To avoid symbols of any particular group or entity and use innovative ideas to support the Palestinian cause.

> To identify people trying to threaten properties and lives as an expression of protest, and resist them in cooperation with law enforcers. It is adamant to remember that oppression cannot be used to protest against oppression.
