Shamyo MurderChhatra Dal blocks Shahbagh again demanding ‘fair probe’

Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Tuesday blocked the Shahbagh intersection for the second day this week protesting “negligence” by police officials in probing the murder of an activist from Dhaka University (DU).

Police have made arrests over the murder of Shahriar Alam Shamyo, but JCD alleged the “real culprits” were yet to be detained.

Vehicular movement came to a halt around the Shahbagh intersection at 3.30pm Tuesday, as Chhatra Dal took to the streets.

On Sunday, the student wing of BNP had blockaded the crucial route for the first time since the ouster of fascist rule last year, to press home the same demand.

During the nearly three-hour blockade, Chhatral Dal threatened to besiege the official residence of interim government head. They had also called for the resignation of DU vice chancellor and proctor.

Last Tuesday, Shamyo was murdered at Suhrawardy Uddyan by unidentified miscreants. He was a student of education research, and a leader from JCD’s DU unit.
