Garment workers block Kakrail demanding unpaid wages

Workers from eight garment factories on Tuesday afternoon blocked the road in front of Kakrail Mosque demanding outstanding wages after police thwarted their march towards the chief adviser’s residence.

A protest leader told reporters the TNZ Group owes nearly Tk21 crore to its 1,058 employees from eight factories as business owners have deferred wages for 14 months.

Another section of the conglomerate’s workers continued their sit-in in front of the Srom Bhaban, preventing government officials from entering their offices for the second consecutive day.

Razu Ahmed, a protest leader and a worker for Style Craft under TNZ Group, said his delegation had submitted a memorandum to the chief adviser’s office, seeking the government’s intervention to settle their dues. However, no step was taken as of Tuesday afternoon, prompting the workers to block Kakrail intersection.
