Govt urges public cooperation for eco-friendly Qurbani waste management

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has urged citizens to dispose of sacrificial animal waste in an environmentally friendly manner during Eid-ul-Azha to avoid pollution and public suffering.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the ministry said, “Indiscriminate slaughtering and improper waste disposal often lead to environmental hazards and health risks. Active public participation is essential to prevent these problems.”

The ministry called on the public to ensure that animals are slaughtered only at designated spots set by city corporations, municipalities, district and upazila councils, and union parishads. It requested people to avoid slaughtering animals in open or unauthorised areas.

Citizens have also been advised to use personal protective equipment—such as gloves, masks, and aprons—during the slaughtering process and to dispose of waste materials like blood, entrails, bones, hides, and dung in designated pits or bins, instead of leaving them in open spaces.

The ministry further recommended using biodegradable and eco-friendly containers, rather than plastic, for distributing meat and removing waste.

"Cleanliness is not just a physical necessity but also a part of our faith," the press release said, urging everyone to carry out their religious, social, and moral duties by ensuring a clean and healthy celebration of Eid-ul-Azha.
