DCAB mourns loss of former president Shamim Ahmad


The Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences over the passing of its former President, Shamim Ahmad, who passed away on Monday morning.

He was admitted to a private hospital on Sunday following a deterioration of his health conditions, and he breathed his last in the morning.

DCAB President AKM Moinuddin and General Secretary Arifuzzaman Mamun have expressed profound grief and sorrow over the death of Shamim.

In a condolence message, they said, “Shamim Ahmed was a shining star in Bangladesh’s journalism. Through his professional integrity, dedication, and leadership qualities, he became a role model for journalists. He was not only a skilled journalist but also an organizer, mentor, and friend.

With his passing, we have lost an experienced, wise, and respected colleague who was always devoted to DICAB’s activities and played an extraordinary role in the development of the organization.”

The DCAB president and general secretary prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended their deepest condolences to his bereaved family, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers.

They also prayed that the Almighty grants him Jannatul Ferdous and gives his family the strength and patience to bear this irreparable loss.

Meanwhile, the DRU Executive Committee has expressed deep sorrow and condolences at his passing.

In a joint statement, President Abu Saleh Akon and General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel conveyed their heartfelt grief over the loss.

Shamim, also former Chief of Correspondents and City Editor of UNB, served as Minister (Press) at Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, led Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and DCAB as President.

The funeral prayers (Namaz-e-Janaza) of Shamim will be held today after Asr prayers at Khilgaon Chowdhury Para Matir Mosque. Following the Janaza, he will be laid to rest at the Mirpur Intellectuals’ Graveyard.
