Gopalganj mayhem: Over 3,000 sued in four cases, 306 arrested

Four cases have been filed against over 3,000 people over vandalism, arson, and attack on police personnel in Gopalganj, centring the NCP rally on 16 July.

Over the last two days, the police filed the lawsuits with Sadar, Kashiani, and Kotalipara police stations.

Meanwhile, law enforcers arrested 306 individuals during drives at places in the district until Saturday noon, starting from 16 July. Of them, 119 were apprehended in the last 24 hours.

Among the four cases, the police filed the latest lawsuit on Friday night.

Sub-Inspector Shamim Al Mamun lodged the case with Sadar police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act against 54 people, citing their names, and 350 unnamed others for torching police vehicle and creating obstacles on the road in the Satpar area.

On 16 July, four people were killed and dozens injured in a series of clashes between Awami League-Chhatra League activists and law enforcers over the NCP’s scheduled rally in the district.

Another individual succumbed to his injuries on 18 July while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
