Indian PM Modi expresses shock, solidarity after deadly Dhaka jet crash

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with Bangladesh following Monday’s fatal Air Force jet crash at Milestone School and College in Dhaka, which killed at least 19 people, many of them schoolchildren.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi wrote:

“Deeply shocked and saddened at the loss of lives, many of them young students, in a tragic air crash in Dhaka. Our hearts go out to the bereaved families. We pray for the swift recovery of those injured. India stands in solidarity with Bangladesh and is ready to extend all possible support and assistance.”

The message comes amid widespread regional and international mourning after the F-7 BGI fighter jet slammed into the school premises in Uttara’s Diabari area, injuring more than 170 people.

Bangladesh has declared Tuesday a day of national mourning to honor the victims of the crash, which has raised serious questions about flight safety over populated areas.
