Role of Corps of Engineers in nation-building to continue: Army Chief


Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman has said that the Bangladesh Army’s Corps of Engineers will continue to play an active and vital role in the nation’s development and infrastructure building in the years ahead.

He made the remarks on Sunday while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the 9th Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineers and the Annual Commanders’ Conference at the Engineer Centre and School of Military Engineering (ECSME) in Kadirabad Cantonment, Natore.

According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release, General Waker-Uz-Zaman attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Upon his arrival at the venue, he was received by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Army Training and Doctrine Command, the Engineer-in-Chief, and the Commandant of ECSME.

During the event, General Waker-Uz-Zaman was formally inducted as the 9th Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineers. Later, he addressed the attending commanders and officers of the Corps, exchanging views on technological advancement, research, professional skill enhancement, and future planning within the engineering wing of the army.

The army chief paid tribute to the members of the Corps of Engineers who had sacrificed their lives in the Liberation War and remembered all heroic freedom fighters. He highlighted the glorious legacy of the Corps in national development, lauding their dedication and contribution to key infrastructure projects and disaster management operations across the country.

General Waker expressed confidence that, with integrity, honesty, and a strong sense of duty, the Corps of Engineers would continue to contribute to the nation’s progress through its developmental and technical excellence.

Senior military officials, including the GOC of the Army Training and Doctrine Command, the Director General of BIISS, the Chief Consultant General of the Ad-hoc Construction Supervision Consultant, the Engineer-in-Chief, the Adjutant General, the GOC of the 11th Infantry Division and Area Commander of Bogura Area, as well as commanders from all army engineering brigades and media representatives, were present at the ceremony.
