7th earthquake since FridayEarthquake shakes Dhaka again

An earthquake shook the capital and other parts of the country at 4:15pm on Thursday, only about a week after a record quake jolted the nation, claiming 10 lives.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department said the quake had a magnitude of 3.6, and it originated 10-kilometre beneath the surface in Ghorashal, Narsingdi, just 28-kilometre away from the Seismic Centre in Dhaka.

The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) and India’s National Center of Seismology (NCS) confirmed the magnitude was 3.6.

This would be the seventh earthquake to shake different parts of the country since Friday. Earlier on Thursday, two earthquakes shook Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet.

Around 3:29am, a 4-magnitude earthquake originated in the Bay of Bengal hitting Teknaf. Less than three hours later, around 6:12am, another earthquake originated in Manipur state of India, shaking Sylhet district.

On Friday morning, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake originated at a depth of 10-km in Narsingdi, rattling the capital and other parts. It left 10 people dead and over 600 others injured, becoming the deadliest quake in independent Bangladesh.

Three more tremors followed on Saturday, including one that originated in Badda in the capital.
