Concerns over Khaleda’s health growBNP men continue to flock Evercare Hospital

Despite repeated appeals from the BNP high command to avoid crowding at Evercare Hospital, party leaders, activists, and sympathisers continued to gather outside the facility on Saturday as party Chairperson Khaleda Zia remains under intensive medical care.

Throughout the afternoon, groups of BNP members were seen standing near the hospital entrance, seeking updates on the former prime minister’s condition.

Many said they travelled from different parts of Dhaka after hearing that Khaleda’s health had deteriorated further.

Earlier in the day, a prayer gathering organised by a platform named Moulik Bangla took place near the hospital, with participants offering prayers for Khaleda Zia’s recovery.

BNP leaders reiterated their request for supporters to refrain from assembling in front of the hospital, citing concerns that large crowds were obstructing regular hospital operations.

In a statement issued in the morning, the party urged its members to pray from home and allow doctors to work without disruption.

However, the appeal appeared to do little to disperse the crowd. The number of people outside the hospital continued to grow, with some bystanders joining out of curiosity, resulting in increased congestion in the surrounding areas.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the persistent gathering reflected “genuine affection and respect” for the party chief, but admitted that it was complicating the hospital’s routine activities.

He once again requested supporters to avoid gathering and ensure that the hospital environment remains calm.

Dhaka North City BNP Convener Aminul Haque also came to the hospital in the late afternoon and personally asked those present to disperse.

Khaleda Zia, who has been suffering from heart and lung complications including pneumonia, is being treated in the hospital’s Coronary Care Unit (CCU) under the supervision of both local and foreign medical specialists.

Hospital authorities have yet to issue any official update regarding her condition.
