13th National Parliamentary ElectionBGB deployed in Mirpur

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed in Mirpur on the first day of the election campaign.

The BGB said in a message that the move aims to preserve law and order ahead of the parliamentary polls.

The BGB personnel have been deployed only in Mirpur. The zones fall under the Dhaka-15 constituency, covering Mirpur and Kafrul.

Photos sent by the border force show personnel were deployed near the Mirpur-10 intersection and the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) premises.

A couple of days ago, clashes broke out between activists of the Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP when Jamaat activists were campaigning in support of their leader Shafiqur Rahman in Pirerbagh. Tensions flared following the incident.

On Wednesday, leaders of both parties traded accusations over the incident at the Election Commission during the symbol allocation programme.

On Thursday, Shafiqur began his election campaign with a public rally at the Adarsha School ground in Mirpur-10.

Police have also been deployed to ensure security in the zone ahead of the rally.
