Cash and gold jewelry can also be kept at the police station during eid: DMP Commissioner
Before the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has advised residents not to leave cash, gold ornaments, or important documents unprotected at home while leaving Dhaka. Instead, they suggested keeping such valuables with relatives or, if necessary, at the local police station.
The acting commissioner of DMP, Md. Sarwar, shared these insights during a press conference held at the DMP Media Center on Sunday (March 15), outlining the security plan for home-bound people and the vacant capital during Eid.
He stated that all necessary preparations have been made to ensure a smooth journey for city dwellers and to secure the capital while it remains empty. Key highlights of the advisory and security plan include:
-
Valuables & Documents: Residents are urged not to leave cash, jewelry, or critical documents unsecured. If someone does not have relatives in Dhaka to look after these items, they can seek police assistance and even store them at police stations if required.
-
Home Safety: Before leaving, citizens should ensure all doors and windows are properly locked and check electricity, gas, and water connections. The DMP also encouraged installing CCTV cameras (or ensuring existing ones are functional) and maintaining adequate lighting around the house at night.
-
Patrolling & Surveillance: To prevent crime, mobile patrolling with over 300 motorcycles and cars will be conducted daily. More than 70 checkpoints have been established for the night, along with foot patrols in various areas. Residential, commercial, and diplomatic zones will be under special surveillance.
-
Transport Hubs: Specialized security measures have been taken for the four bus terminals, the launch terminal, and the railway station. Both uniformed and detective police will be deployed to prevent passenger harassment and the collection of extra fares.
-
Market Security: Approximately 1,000 additional police personnel are deployed at various shopping malls from morning until late night to thwart snatchers, "Ajnan Party" (poisoning gangs), "Mollem Party," and pickpockets.
-
Preventing Speeding: To stop car racing or overspeeding on empty roads during the Eid holidays, mobile courts will operate on the Purbachal Expressway, the Banani-Abdullahpur stretch, and in the Gulshan area.
